The elevator takes you through 500 years of Manhattan’s history, with only a brief appearance of the One World Trade Center towards the end. We don’t want to reveal too much however as this is one of the highlights of the building (not including the view of course). What was really impressive were the time-lapse videos and the virtual view on the walls of the elevator. The elevator to One World Observatory goes up 1250 feet in 47 seconds – that’s the equivalent of 23 mph an hour! While I am not the greatest fan of elevators in general, I had to find a way to the 102nd floor and I surely wouldn’t want to climb the stairs. We had heard a lot of stories about the elevator inside the One World Trade Center and how it has been made into a very special experience. ![]() There was no emphasis on the attacks of September 11th which we thought was very positive as the Memorial and Museum do an amazing job of this already It was interesting to learn about the feat of engineering of the building itself and the process of building such a colossal skyscraper in the modern-day and age. The video montage was great and really gave us the feeling of the OWTC being a new beginning. The One World Trade Center “gave back to New York what was taken from her” But in the end, you couldn’t be more proud.” Building inspector Mark Becker compares the building of the tower to raising a child: “It takes a lot of strength and patience. He was referring to the former World Trade Center. Construction worker Thomas Mehalick said: “I’m working on the same thing my father worked on in the first one: the steel supports”. The videos show how the people who helped in its construction, have taken this to heart. The One World Trade Center “gave back to New York what was taken from her”. They helped build the highest building in the western hemisphere. You get to hear the stories and personal accounts of the engineers’ architects, and construction workers. Construction of One World Trade CenterĪfter the welcome center, you get to experience a walk-through video montage called Voices. The live counter of how many visitors had been admitted to the OWTC was also a nice touch. For example, German visitors were greeted with a picture of the Steuben Parade (the festival for German-Americans) and visitors from France with an image of the Statue of Liberty. Your country of origin lights up on a huge globe, and also an image of the special connection between the United States and your home country. After having your ticket scanned, you are greeted in your native language. The welcome at the Global Welcome Center was very unique. We spent another 5 minutes waiting here, however, due to free wifi in the building we all passed the time surfing the web on our phones. Shortly after being admitted to the building escalators took us up to the security checkpoint, which was similar to what you would expect at an airport. Here is the link to tickets for One World Observatory. This way you can delay your visit if something gets in the way or the weather isn’t ideal. If you are booking your tickets some time in advance, I would recommend a flexible ticket just in case. We had opted for a regular fixed time ticket, meaning that even if the building had been shrouded in clouds we would not have been able to change our entry time. One important thing to note is that you really have to be lucky in case the weather doesn’t play along. I would therefore strongly suggest purchasing a priority ticket, especially if you are planning to go on a weekend. We were informed that it was often this empty at 9:00 am on a weekday. According to the staff, however, this was due to the time of my visit. Our wait time was less than 2 minutes – the waiting line for those with standard tickets was just as short by the way. When we arrived at the One World Observatory we were able to join the separate queue for priority tickets. On our last visit, we bought a priority ticket with a fixed entry time and had a print out of the e-ticket with us. Wow, I did a lot of research in early 2018 into doing 360 stitching and tours. Thanks to the Kolor team for the last years and all the best wishes for the future! One important note here – Panotour Pro includes an exportable krpano license – and if you haven’t already exported that license, I would recommend doing that as soon as possible! The license export will be only possible as long as the license servers from Kolor are working! This should make it easier to use the latest krpano version in Panotour Pro and maybe also add some fixes to some templates when necessary. I will try to use that new opened access to provide ‘update-packages’ for Panotour Pro when new krpano versions will be released. That means some updates to Panotour Pro are still possible. With the last Panotour Pro release (version 2.5.14) Kolor has opened the access to its previously internal template files to make it possible to edit or update them manually. What does this mean for Panotour Pro users?Īs Kolor closes there will be no official Panotour Pro development anymore, but using the software itself will be still possible. Maybe one thing – I was already working on improving the krpano GUI editing functionalities for a long time and now without Panotour I will probably accelerate the development in that direction. The krpano development itself is very good ongoing (although a bit slower than wished) and the next release is not far away and will bring some nice new features. krpano was always fully independent and will be also in future. Thanks to Pepe Vazquez (360 Tips & Tricks) for bringing this to my attention!įor Kolor Panotour users here is a comment and some good news from Klaus the developer of Krpano the core on which Panotour is based:įrom krpano side basically nothing will change or be different now. Hopefully Kolor’s closure leads to a stronger GoPro and to increased business for PTGui and Mistika, and virtual tour software such as Pano2VR. What is surprising to me is why GoPro didn’t sell Kolor’s intellectual property to Adobe or other companies (perhaps it might still happen). Although GoPro’s stock has improved in the last 4 months, and even recently set a new high for 2018, Kolor’s closing appears to be a direct consequence of GoPro’s financial issues. However, GoPro has been under a lot of financial pressure due to declining sales and its stock plummeted in August 2015. ![]() Its Autopano stitching software and Panotour virtual tour software have been among the leading products in the 360 and VR industry. Before you make a choice, check to see what your surrounding towers are and what sort of upgrades they have available. Based on the branch you pick, the new tower will gain access to new upgrades that affect how it performs and what it can do to enemies. Each one has two standard upgrades, and then a final upgrade that can branch in different directions. One of the more interesting and varied aspects of the towers is that they can be upgraded. Have a look at the upcoming waves before you think about casting. The summon units spell has a decently short cooldown time, but the AoE and Hero spells take much longer to recharge. While spells can seem very powerful and useful, they should only be used in an emergency, and effectively at that. ![]() They are a summon units spell, an AoE attack spell, and a shop spell, though later games include an additional spell that changes based on the Hero you have selected. In addition to being able to build and upgrade towers and command units, you also have access to a total of three spells. There are many distinctive characters in Kingdom Rush, but you take on the role of some sort of omniscient being. To fix this, the Barracks should be the very first tower you upgrade to make your soldiers more effective and stall enemies even longer. However, the number of enemies will ramp up quickly, so your small team of soldiers will quickly get overwhelmed. ![]() The primary purpose of this tower is to slow units down and draw their attention by forcing them to fight. The Barracks is notable for being the first tower that doesn't actually launch projectiles, but instead repeatedly spawns warriors in the area around it, up to a maximum of three. As a side note, Heroes that are able to summon units are a solid choice as they can function as mobile Barracks.īy this point, there is a huge selection of towers in Kingdom Rush, but the classic four are Archers, Mages, Demolition, and Barracks. After you see the layout of the level and determine the types of enemies you'll face, pick a Hero to fill any role you feel that your tower arrangement will be lacking. Unfortunately, you're limited to just one Hero per level which makes things tricky. There is a huge roster of Kingdom Rush Heroes to choose from that unlock as you complete more levels and earn stars. They are similar to soldiers and militia, but are much stronger and come equipped with very useful abilities. These are unique units that you can direct to move around the map. These are also good places to use any spells that can hold enemies there or tower/hero abilities that can slow them down so they receive the full force or your combination.Ī later addition to the Kingdom Rush formula was the inclusion of Heroes. You should diversify between the various tower classes to do both the most damage as well as different kinds of damage. Around the crossroads are typically many empty plots where you can build towers. These are some of the most strategic points on the map since you can predict when huge groups of enemies will pass through. This allows enemies to bypass each other and continue on their set route. Each Kingdom Rush title has its own flair, but standard strategies can be employed to great effect across all of them.Īlthough each of the level maps has different path layouts, there are bound to be several areas where they intersect. Using the open plots arranged along the paths, you need to construct different towers designed to hamper and eliminate enemy units before they reach the end of their path. Enemies will appear at one of the spawn points and make their way to one of the exits, dealing damage to your kingdom's heart counter if they make it. The level is made up of a bunch of paths that have numerous spawn points and exits. No matter what the context is, the goal is always the same: Stop the invaders. Each level presents a contained area that you can oversee from the main screen. In each game, you progress through different levels on a map. However, no matter which side you're playing, each entry in the series uses the same foundation for its gameplay. Kingdom Rush is currently on its fourth game, Kingdom Rush: Vengeance, which has you taking on the role of the villains as they try to consume the realm. It's made up of numerous titles, with one introducing new elements and expanding on its selection of towers, spells, and heroes. One of the most prolific series of the genre is Kingdom Rush by Ironhide Game Studio. The tower defense style of the game makes for a fun and quick take on strategy, and mobile is overwhelmed with them. The movement bears the Seal of Geneva and was regulated by Roger Dubuis himself. At the time of production, it was only Patek Philippe movements that carried the Geneva Seal, hence why Dubuis felt that it was crucial to have the same hallmark of quality. One of the highest quality base automatic movements available at the time, the Lemania 8810 was also used for the brand’s perpetual calendar, as well as being integrated by other watchmakers of the time, such as Daniel Roth. The watch is powered by the Calibre RD 57, based on a Lemania 8810 ébauche. Though this piece is fitted with a sapphire crystal, it is also accompanied by an additional closed caseback, which features fine perlage on the inside. The case is subtle and discrete, with its finely polished bezel and lugs, contrasting with a delicately brushed mid-case, a subtle nod to vintage dress watches from the past. The dauphine hands are sharply finished, with the two different portions of the hand reflecting the light in different ways. The printed minute track and rose gold applied numerals form an appealing contrast against the lacquered white surface, helping with overall legibility. Since then, these cursive numerals have been used on a range of prestigious timepieces, though they’ve become most associated with vintage watches from Patek Philippe. This style of numerals first appeared just before the French Revolution, when Abraham-Louis Breguet helped to cement the style. It features a glossy white dial, with applied Breguet numerals. This piece is a perfect execution of the concept, with its 37mm rose gold case and subtle details. In practice, this meant classic, vintage-leaning designs, combined with refined mechanical movements. As the name suggests, the Hommage pieces were designed as a homage to the great watchmakers of the past, according to Dubuis himself. This time-only piece is perhaps the purest incarnation of the Hommage concept, paring it back to its most essential components. Though his output in the earliest days of the brand was limited, the design and quality of the pieces he produced have stood the test of time. In 2003, after only eight years, Roger Dubuis himself left his eponymous brand. In particular, the Hommage watches, as the name suggests, were designed as a homage to the great watchmakers of old, according to Mr Dubuis. ![]() ![]() Dubuis’ attempt to rival Patek Philippe themselves was obvious in some of his choices, from seeking the Geneva Seal for his movements to designing deployante buckles. The first Roger Dubuis watches were acclaimed by collectors because they channelled the traditional Geneva watchmaking that Patek Philippe embodied, while having more stylistic flair. 3448 – which Dubuis himself had the opportunity to work on.ĭubuis’ enthusiasm for watchmaking was such that, when he had finished working a full day at the atelier, he would go home and work on repairing watches for private clients, auction houses and dealers around Geneva. In the ’80s, he left Patek Philippe to establish his own workshop, dedicating himself fully to the restoration of pieces from the past. In 1995, following a partnership with businessman Carlos Dias, he would establish his own eponymous brand. His time there coincided with the production of some of the manufacture’s most sought-after, complicated models – from the ref. Shortly thereafter, he integrated Patek Philippe‘s complications department, where he has the opportunity to work on gongs, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars, among others. Roger Dubuis started his career at Longines, in the late 1950s, where he spent close to a decade in the after-sales department, repairing and caring for the brand’s watches, including their prestigious chronographs. Believed to be limited to 28 pieces, this Roger Dubuis Hommage H37 is perhaps one of the most pared back executions of the watchmaker’s distinctive Hommage design. It combines a rose gold case with a glossy white dial, powered by a practical automatic movement, based on the high-quality Lemania 8810 ébauche. |
